R + L | Montreal Proposal

On July 27th,2017 I got an email.

These emails are getting more and more popular and, as photographers, we could not be happier. Photography is all about preserving memories for years to come and there’s no better moment to preserve than a PROPOSAL. In order to organize this proposal, I asked them for a photo of them and an idea of what they would be wearing.

I’ve photographed at the Belvedere a LOT and I knew there would be a LOT of people. So we made a deal… When you get to the mountain and you see a girl with a camera and aren’t sure if it’s me, I told Ravi, Cough. I’ll cough back. *insert mission impossible theme song* Sneaky sneaky.

I arrived at my spot 30 minutes in advance… because we never know how their plans could change. I waited and waited until I saw a green dress show up near the lookout.

Proposal are sooooo nerve-racking because you literally only have a few seconds to capture it. The one proposing is usually SO NERVOUS that they get down on one knee and then quickly get back up to give the ring. I told Ravi to TAKE HIS TIME but … most of the time … They don’t remember any instructions at all. Also, It’s important not to give a lot of instructions or else things start looking very mechanical. It’s like when people insist on telling wedding parties on how to walk down the aisle. STOP THAT! They know what walking is. They’ve done it for decades. The last thing I need is people walking with puzzled faces because they don’t want to “f*ck it up” Pardon my language. Just tell them to smile and the rest will flow.

Rant over.

When Ravi was in position… a baby carriage settled right in my view!! I asked the guy next to me to PLEASE tell them to move and he just looked at me and went back to his book. True story. So I ran to the carriage and kindly told mama to GET THE HELL OUT OF THE WAY. Just kidding. I told her nicely, I swear.

The proposal went great! Ravi finally told her new fiancé that there was a photographer capturing the whole thing and she was really surprised. When I went over to say hi and congratulate them, the first thing Ravi told me ” I COUGHED!! I COUGHED! You didn’t answer!!” Oops… my bad. hahaha

After the proposal, Ravi opted for a photo session in the area. These two are getting married in Mexico this year! <3
