In honor of their first year anniversary, I would like to present to you a wedding that was photographed in JAMAICA in September last year (wow! Can’t believe it’s been a year) K + W planned their wedding in Beautiful Montego Bay, Jamaica with close to 50 of their friends and family. I’ve said it before but I’m always surprised at how lucky I am with my destination couples. When you are shooting destination, It’s a little tricky because you aren’t spending time with people for only one day… It’s usually an ENTIRE WEEK. That can be a lot for a photographer – especially one that’s a little introverted. You never met these people before and now you are “forced” into a crowd that’s usually been hanging out for years. If you do not get along with them right away, it can be hard to spend a whole week with strangers. With my couples, however, it’s always been smooth sailing. These people were (are) awesome! No problems getting along at ALL. What a crowd!

I was also extremely lucky because the sister of the bride and the makeup artist were people that I’ve worked together with before. WHATTTTTT? Huge surprise there! Chelsea from Lock to Lashes – which happens to help me a lot in my boudoir shoots these days – and the sister? Melanie! one of the girls from LOVELY & LAVISH. PLUS, the flowers were provided by my favs O.xide Design.

The flowers, the decor, the atmosphere, everything was amazing. I want you to take a look at how little you need to really make an event look polished and “put together”. Including FAKE FLOWERS. Whaaaat? In such a humid climate (and, was it ever humid), flowers won’t stay looking fresh for long. Luckily, O.xide fixed that issue by giving them fake flowers. Friends, this is not the flowers you find at Walmart or the Dollarstore. These look so real (and so beautiful). Usually made from polyester fabric and/or silk. Hardly any plastic is used (save the turtles!). You get awesome looking bouquets that you can keep for life. I swear this is not an ad. I just never knew before!

K+W decided to have their special day very early in the week so that they could just enjoy the rest of the time there like a tiny pre-honeymoon. I loved that! I was able to enjoy my time there with them without having the wedding gitters (yea! we get those!). On the day, they got ready in separate rooms, did a first look before heading out to the ceremony. The dinner/reception ended with a lot of dancing and, my favorite, JUMPING IN THE OCEAN in your wedding attire. YA!

This was such a blast. After I was done shooting, I stayed much longer to party with everyone. Needless to say, the next day was rough. But who cares… WE WERE IN JAMAICA!  If you are thinking of having a destination wedding and think you can’t afford a professional photographer, know that it’s often the same pricing as getting one from the resort. Check with your fav togs and inquire! As for me, I give super deals if I’ve NEVER BEEN to that country because I love to travel.
