I’ve been a little worried lately.
After talking to a past bride and catching up on her and her new hubby (!!) , she shamefully admitted to me that she hadn’t yet seen her wedding photos which had been in her possession for months already. Whhaattttt?
-“I’ve seen them! Don’t worry. We love them all! But we haven’t really had time to go back and reallllyyy look at them and figure out what to do next.”
Goodness! That’s a shame! But that also made me think. If one bride admitted to this, chances are there’s quite a few more out there. So I decided to write this post.
I understand that life can take over (we are all so busy) but your wedding photos are the last thing left from [what i hope was] the best day of your life. You need to make sure they don’t get forgotten about! Especially in this digital age where photos are usually hidden inside a DVD, USB or inside an Online gallery.
Here’s 5 things that you can do with your photos to help protect your memories!
1) Back them up!
I did a little research before writing this article and many website talked about endless FUN ideas to do with your photos. However, NO ONE mentioned the N.1 most important thing. BACKING UP YOUR PHOTOS. Brides, hard drives get corrupted, Dvd get scratched and online galleries companies can go out of business. It’s extremely important to COPY your wedding photos 2 or even 3 times on different mediums to make sure that they don’t get lost. Don’t wait until tomorrow. Do it NOW. Anything can happen to your computer or hard drives. Just a power outage could mess up your computer. Did you know that? So go to best buy and buy two extra hard drives and an online cloud to make copies of your photos. Your wedding photographer might not have them when they need replacing.
2) Print them
Now that your photos are secure, time to have a little fun. Free your photos from their digital shell and print them out! Even if it’s little 4×6 and you put them in a pretty little box. Seeing your photos in print is really incredible. You should try it.
Just a little tip? Pharmaprix and Costco are probably the best at printing consumer photos (color wise). Just make sure you tell them NOT to “color process” them and to leave them as is. If you want the BEST color, ask your photographer to print them for you. We use professionals that specialize in printing photos. The quality is outstanding.
3) Make wall art and canvases
Professional photos are viewed best, LARGE. Make pretty art by using some detail shots and then a portrait of you and your new hubby for your bedroom or living space. I found cool pins on Pinterest that shows inspiration of different sizes and photo combinations which I’m sure will look amazing in your home.
4) Make a photo book
It can be Professional or from Jean Coutu. It doesn’t have to be very fancy either. It just has to hold your precious photos at arm’s reach. Having a book of your wedding day can bring new life to them. It allows you to see the flow of your special day as it happened rather than just having a bunch of files smooched on your computer. It’s also a much nicer way for your visitors to drool over your beautiful photos when they “accidentally” stumble on the book that happened to be out of your coffee table. 😉 I love Artifact Uprising books, they are delicious. If you need help building one, I also can provide you with one. I offer professional , longer lasting, albums and storybooks.
5) Print your photos into fun formats
Coasters, posters, blankets, calendars or my favourite, magnets. There’s endless [cliché but fabulous] ways to print out your wedding photos so that you can come across them everyday in your home. So do them! Today! Just google and you’ll find TONS of online providers to do it for you as a small cost. Really.
5 things that you can do with your photos today. So, don’t hesitate. Because technology is all wonderful … but it’s not forever. Things can happen. And the first thing on your mind should be how to protect your photos! The only tangible thing you have left from your wedding day. Because if ever they are gone… they are gone!
